Who is Brother Andrew?
"I'm not a smuggler, I'm a missionary. I have chosen to be obedient
and not turn away from danger. So when government says, 'No!', I said,
'Wait a minute, God said, 'Go!', so I didn't listen to the 'No!'" Read about Brother Andrew and Open Doors: Our History "A bullet made an end to my sports ambition but
put me on the track to Jesus." As a young soldier, Brother Andrew was severely wounded in Indonesia. Here's his story of how he found Jesus: Brother Andrew's Story .
Egypt's Fields are Ripe for Harvest
Empowering Egypt's Young Women to Take Ownership of Their God-given Hope and Destiny
By Nina Kelly | Open Doors UK & Ireland
The spiritual fields of Egypt are clearly ripe and ready for harvest. Thousands of nominal Christians, many whom are desperate to escape from grinding poverty, are converted to Islam every year via Saudi-backed initiatives.
However, more than 20,000 of the most vulnerable Christians are now benefiting from Christian run initiatives such as women's empowerment programs and Christian educational and professional services to help them improve their quality of life and learn about a living faith in Jesus which helps them stay true to their roots. Starting Friday in Brisbane and Gold Coast
The Struggle for Freedom is a fast paced drama based on real-life
events, which delves deep into the cultures and lives of our fellow
believers who live in two of the most significant areas of the world,
the Middle East and China.
Here our brothers and sisters face a daily
struggle over issues of survival, identity and value in strongholds
that seek to obliterate any perceived opposition to their regimes. The circumstances of such Christians are in stark contrast to that of
Christians in the West.
The film makes clear how we can use our freedom
to bring hope and encouragement, yet at the same time transform our own
faith and witness by learning how to count the cost.
Coming soon to
Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Everyone welcome! ITINERARY
Bush Vows Push on China's Lack of Religious Freedom
President Bush pledged to maintain pressure on China for its religious
freedom violations in his speech Monday in honor of the 10th
anniversary of the International Religious Freedom Act.
"We remember those seeking religious freedom in China, and we honor
those who press for their liberties," Bush said.
He recalled the meeting with Chinese dissident and human rights lawyer
Li Baiguang last month at the White House. Li, a "house church"
Protestant, has been repeatedly attacked and jailed for his work. A few
weeks ago, the human rights champion was scheduled to meet members of
Congress, but Chinese authorities had blocked the meeting and detained
him.
"This determined man has pledged: 'I'll continue to seek justice for
victims of rights abuses, and promote the rule of law in China,'" Bush
recalled. "And my message to President Hu Jintao, when I last met him,
was this: So long as there are those who want to fight for their
liberty, the United States stands with them "

Daily Prayer Guide for the Olympics
July 23, 2008 Wednesday Zhang Mingxuan, a prominent Beijing-based pastor and founder of the Chinese House Church Alliance, and his ailing wife were relocated by plain-clothes officers to Hebei Province's Yanjiao township last Friday night after a week of harassment. According to Hong Kong's The Sunday Post on July 20, the government was concerned that he might be a "destabilizing factor" during the Olympic Games because he is a well-known house church figure who has often met with foreign officials when they visit China. He has been told to stay there during the Olympics. According to him, 2008 is the most difficult in his 20 years as a Christian. "The crackdown on underground churches so far this year is much more intense than the past few years put together because of the Olympic Games," Zhang said.
Please pray for those house church leaders who have faced increased harassment and surveillance this year because of their connections with foreigners. Remember Zhang and his wife, Xie Fenglan, who must stay put in Yanjiao until after the Olympics. Xie needs to see a doctor very often because of her poor health. Pray for God's healing for Pastor Zhang and strength for his wife.
IRAN: Convert Couple Arrested, Tortured and Threatened
"Next time there may be an apostasy charge, if you don't stop with your Jesus"

LOS ANGELES, June 25 (Compass Direct News) - Security police officials
in Tehran this month tortured a newly converted couple and threatened
to put their 4-year-old daughter in an institution after arresting them
for holding Bible studies and attending a house church.
A Christian source in Iran said that 28-year-old Tina Rad was charged
with "activities against the holy religion of Islam" for reading the
Bible with Muslims in her home in east Tehran and trying to convert
them. Officials charged her husband, 31-year-old Makan Arya, with
"activities against national security" after seizing the couple from
their home on June 3, forcing them to leave their 4-year-old daughter
ill and unattended. Full Story

Opens Doors in the Electronic Age
Programs for Muslim-background Children also Engage Adults
Open Doors
is involved in co-producing electronic programming for Internet, radio and
satellite television. We partner with national and international production
companies to use multimedia to train and disciple believers in the Middle East
and encourage local Christians with quality Christian programs. We are engaged
in co-production of programs in Arabic and Farsi, eventually to expand to
programming in other languages such as Kurdish and North-African languages.
One of the
challenges in electronic outreach is the feedback and follow-up. How do we know
that we are reaching the right people and how do we know that the message has
come across? In absence of statistical data there is plenty of anecdotal
evidence. FULL STORY:
Christians who have faced persecution or suffering have commented many times how immensly encouraging it was for them to know that other believers around the world were praying for them.
