Kazakhstan
Source of persecution:
Dictatorial paranoia/organised corruption
Despite apparent interest in international cooperation, the main persecution source remains the state and there is still a bias against the Christian minority apart from the Russian-Orthodox Church. Harsh new laws have been introduced. Compulsory censorship on religious materials is imposed. Training of Christian leaders has become much more complicated and youth work now requires the permission of both parents. In 2012 some pastors were detained for short periods and there was an increase in raids against churches and heavy fines.
Pray:
- For wisdom for Christians: in order to get things done, it is normal to pay bribes and anyone who speaks out against this will get into trouble quickly
- For indigenous believers, especially converts, who are harassed by their own family, neighbours and religious leaders
- For church leaders trying to register their churches with the authorities.
