Central African Republic | Dozens Of Christians Killed

Return to Prayer News
By Jacob Ennever | 19 September 2018

A church in the Central African Republic (CAR) is urgently seeking prayer following a brutal killing of 14 Christians in the city of Bria in early September.

According to World Watch Monitor, local sources stated that as many as 42 people died in the massacre over 4 – 5 September.

One church leader said, “Amongst [those killed] were ten women, two men and two children.” At least one of the women was pregnant.

Ex-Seleka militia, a group of Islamic extremists, were behind the attack.

The Need For Prayer

Those killed were from the Internally Displaced Persons Camp known as ‘PK3’, which host over 50,000 people. Many of these people are followers of Jesus.

Christians in Bria are terrorised by multiple ex-Seleka Islamic extremists groups.

One church leader said, “Christians never go to town. If they do, they are threatened, arrested, and asked to pay fines before they are released.

“We Christians have nothing else to do, no food to eat, no place to go. We rely only on prayers. Please pray for us!"

The Gospel Continues To Go Out

Pastor Tokono was killed in August last year by Islamic extremists. Despite the ongoing violence, his wife, Veronique* continues to share the gospel.

"I will continue ministering even in my husband’s absence just like I did while he was alive. I pray that the Almighty God forgives the attackers because they do not know what they are doing. And also that He will save them from that evil way.”

Please Pray:

  • Pray for the family and friends of the victims, that they will be comforted in this time.
  • Pray that the Christians in this IDP camp continue to put their trust in God.
  • Pray for Veronique, that she will continue to be the light of the gospel in this dark place.
