Iran: Protests in Iran Reflect a Far Deeper Crisis

Street protests have erupted across Iran with security forces using mass arrest and lethal force to control the crowds. Multiple sources report thousands have been killed.

Economic pressures and livelihood changes are only some of the drivers behind what is happening on Iran’s streets. The recent protests reflect a far deeper crisis: a cry for dignity, justice, and life itself.

How are Christians impacted?

Christian converts are being targeted and treated as national security threats. Authorities continue to prosecute believers and house-church leaders under “national security” and “propaganda” charges, with heavy prison terms.

Iranian Christians are strongly committed to justice, human dignity, and peace, shaped by their lived experience of marginalisation and by Christian ethics emphasising non-violence and love for their neighbours.

As Persian-speaking believers oppressed by constant pressure and banned from having recognised places of worship, their desire for change is deeply personal. And yet, they view and understand recent events as a unified national movement, not a religious uprising.

Visible on the streets or standing in prayer and solidarity, Iranian Christians who participate do so first as Iranian citizens, motivated by conscience and a shared hope for a future defined by equality, accountability, and respect for human life across all religious and ethnic lines.

Please pray:

  • Pray for peace, protection and wisdom for the people of Iran amid violence and uncertainty.
  • Pray for comfort for families who have lost loved ones, and divine healing for those injured and traumatised.
  • Pray for leaders and decision-makers worldwide to act justly and speak boldly for freedom of religion and belief.
