On Sunday, 13 July 2025, Fulani extremists opened fire on Gwon community in Plateau State, killing two evangelists visiting the community. The evangelists were part of a group visiting the area and sharing the gospel.
Solomon Daylop, the leader of a local youth group called the Berom Youth Moulders Association, who witnessed the attack, shares, “They opened fire and shot two people dead. From there, there was so much gunfire into the community until the military task force and vigilante members arrived and repelled the attackers, who retreated to the hills.”
The attackers, Fulani extremists, went on to the neighbouring community of Jol where they attacked once again.
“While we were burying the two people killed in Gwon, the Fulani militia (sic) went to the community headquarters of Rim and attacked the village,” Dalyop told local news.
“The attack lasted for about one hour, with a fierce gun battle. The attackers were all over the Jol community area, destroying farm crops as well.”
According to Daylop the extremists warned people that, “they would come in the night”.
Christians Fear for Their Lives
The community leader shares that people are living in a state of anxiety. “As it is, the people are mourning and are living in apprehension and fear for their lives, not knowing what will happen next because the bandits, numbering over a hundred, are well-kitted with arms,” he shares.
Christian communities in the Middle Belt and North East and Central of Nigeria are experiencing an onslaught of attacks from Fulani extremists. It is a strategic time to attack these communities, as many are subsistence farmers and are planting crops at the moment. The destruction and displacement ensures livelihoods are destroyed and Christians become impoverished.
Please join us in praying for Northern Nigeria. Attacks happen almost daily.
Pray for Nigeria:
- Pray Fulani extremists will lay down their weapons, repent, and turn to God.
- Pray God’s comfort and healing for those affected by these attacks.
- Pray in particular for the families of the two evangelists that were killed. May they tangibly experience God’s presence, care, and provision for them.
- Pray for the local and national government. Pray they will act swiftly to ensure that all Nigerians are protected and that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
